Longing for smell, dinner time
Faded, mouth dry, try
Vegetables, see, sigh lie
Taste, none, sigh, cry, my
Wow! back to me tea
Superb smell
Back!

Sunday Roast

Tender slices of roast lamb

Minty taste jelly

Smell of gravy, very good

Lovely Sunday roast
It's soft in my mouth

Goes down well

Yum!

Roast Dinner

Roast beef, Yorkshire pud, fresh veg

Creamy horseradish

Families eat Sunday lunch

Sit round the table

English tradition

May it last

Yeah!

Chips

Choose the potatoes, clean them

Cut into fingers

Even strips crisp much better

Thick chunks more healthy

Golden crunchy bites

Taste moreish

Mmm!

Chocolate

A loud crunch that sends goose bumps

Aroma so sweet

Chocolate is the brown delight

The taste so bitter

A smooth block of good

Just divine

Yum!

From the Field

Melting cheese under the grill

So soft and runny

Bubbles fiercely under heat

Smells so delicious

Cannot wait to taste

It's scrumptious

Wow!

Winter Smells

A very cold winter night

Walking through the door

The pan boiling on the stove

Aroma of earth

Vegetables galore

Bowl and spoon

Um!

Jaffa Cake

Floating on a soft light sponge

Tangy orange spread

Secretly hidden within

Thin, dark chocolate

Bite through to reveal

Its treasure

Rich!

From the Ground

Plucked from the dampened field

Night melts into dawn

Butter melting in the pan

A bruise of garlic

Aroma rises

Mushrooms fry

Earth!

(c) Jan Hedger

Bellissimo

Tomatoes prised from the vine

Warmed by the Tuscan sun

Fresh leaves of deep green basil

Finger torn and scattered

A perfect marriage

Olive oil

Drenched!

(c) Jan Hedger

Comfort

Steel cold metal implement

Hand held plunges deep

Through crisp, hot, sweetened crumble

Sharpness of apple

Yielding passively

In rich cream

Bliss!

Corn on the Cob

Butter melts between the cracks

Teeth scrape over bumps

Explore rows with questing tongue

Grease drips down my chin

Bite 'till kernels burst

Juice explodes

Sweet!

Chocolate

Square, cold and hard on my tongue

I turn it over

Exploring every facet

I push and it yields

Resisting at first

Then melting

Mmmm!
